What is the Box template？
Packaging box is printed on large sheets, then cut into custom flat shapes that require special dies for cutting.
After printing, a special cutting tool is made to match this flat shape (like this one). These lines are what we mention the box template.
How to Calculate Dieline Dimensions for a Box Template
From the above, we know that the cutting line is also called the die line, which is the line where the cutting tool presses down.How do you calculate the box die line size ?
First, the inner dimensions of the box should be determined based on the outer dimensions of the item to be packaged.
Generally, the inner dimensions of the box should be slightly larger than the product ,by just a few millimeters, depending on the actual size of your product.
(This is because the box produced by diecutting has a tolerance range, and the product also has its own dimensional tolerances. Therefore, the minimum inner dimension of the box must be able to accommodate the maximum outer dimension of the product.)
After deciding the inner dimensions of the box, check the thickness of the box materials.
The dieline dimension = calculated inner dimension of the box +material thickness
The outer dimension of the box = calculated inner dimension of the box + 2 × material thickness.
The method is used for both length and width.
The height is more complicated, because the bottom of the box is often folded, which means there are several layers of paper. You need to calculate this carefully. Remember, the bottom may have overlapping layers, and the top may too.
