In printing and packaging, hot stamping is a method for applying shiny metallic foil (or matte finishes) to materials such as paper and cardboard.
A custom-made metal stamp, carved with the design you want and heated up, presses down onto a thin sheet of foil placed over the material. The heat causes a sticky layer on the foil to melt, gluing it to the material underneath. With the right amount of heat, pressure, and time applied, the design from the foil sticks perfectly onto the material. This leaves behind a smooth, shiny, and very decorative finish.
Other popular colors include bronze, blue, green, and rose gold/white.
Design Guidelines for Foil Stamping Artwork
- You must make a separate black layer for the foil stamping areas. The file shouldbe an AI vector file.
- Foil stamping cannot create gradient colors or see-through (transparent) effects.
- Pictures, text, and lines should not be too small, thin, or complicated, otherwise the result won’t be ideal.
- Please clearly mark the foil color you want in your design file, so we can understand your needs correctly.
