Things You Need to Know About Rigid Box
Rigid boxes are the heavyweights of packaging. We also call them setup boxes. They are constructed from about 2-3.5 mm thick greyboard; this does not bend, and they are wrapped with art paper, specialty paper, PU leather, or fabric on the outside

Rigid Box Types and Their Names
- Lid and base boxes (also called two-piece boxes) have separate top and bottom pieces.
- Magnetic boxes are available in both folding and non-folding rigid versions.
- Shouldered boxes have an inner base and a lid. The lid can cover the full neck or only part of it.
- Round options include tube boxes and rolled-edge tube packaging.

They feature thick greyboard construction with printed paper wrapping and are made to order in almost any size or style. Rigid Box Materials
The outer and inner wrapping paper are usually 157 gsm–200 gsm. Options include white, black, and brown kraft paper, coated art paper, gold or silver card, holographic paper, and textured paper. The greyboard inside comes in white, black, or standard grey. Most rigid boxes use a greyboard between 1200 and 1800 gsm. Different paper materials affect the cost.

Unlined Interior vs. Lined Interior Rigid Boxes
The interior leaves the greyboard in its natural color, available in white, grey, or black. Often used for packaging with inserts, where the interior appearance is less important.
The interior is wrapped with textured paper or custom-printed paper for an elegant look, or the inside is exposed without any inserts.

Most rigid gift box manufacturing projects follow the production steps below.
First, prepare the wrapping paper and greyboard. Rigid boxes are usually made with wrapping paper and greyboard. The greyboard grammage affects how firm the gift box is.
Second, we print the artwork on the wrapping paper (Note: Some wrapping papers do not require printing, such as colored textured paper.)
Third, we laminate most boxes after printing. Some specialty papers can be used without lamination. Various surface finishing techniques can also be applied, as mentioned above.
Fourth, die cutting is used to cut the printed wrapping paper and greyboard into the shape of the gift box.Extra material is removed during this process.Crease lines are added before the box is assembled.
Fifth, most factories now use automatic machines to precisely bond the glue-coated wrapping paper to the greyboard (usually the half-finished product that has already undergone corner pasting). This makes rigid box assembly and forming faster. Large boxes or small production runs are usually assembled by hand.
