Surface Finishing Customization
- In film lamination, the box gets coated with a protective film on its outer surface.
The coating may be of various types, such as glossy, matte, soft touch, and scratch-resistant. - Aqueous Coating is applied as a liquid to give the printed surface a glossy or matte finish
- Foil Stamping is the application of metallic elements to the logos and letters.
- Embossing and debossing refer to raised or depressed elements on the surface of the box.
- Spot UV provides glossiness on the selected spots of the box.
What Is an Auto Bottom Box?
An auto bottom box is also called an auto-lock bottom box or a crash-lock bottom box..This is a type of folding carton which comes with a base that has been glued together at the packaging factory. Like other tuck boxes, it can be shipped flat. However, upon opening, the bottom immediately becomes erect without manual assembly. This one advantage alone saves time and provides a stable base for the packaged product. CBMPrint manufactures custom auto bottom boxes in both paperboard and corrugated board, according to your requirements.

How to Choose the Right Materials

The auto bottom boxes are manufactured using C1S paperboard and Kraft paperboard, with the most common weights ranging from 300-400 GSM. The C1S paperboard has a coated finish and is used for printing purposes, while the Kraft paperboard has a natural brown color.

Fluting board is used in the corrugated auto bottom folding cartons to give extra cushioning. There are two types of flutes that we provide:
– E-flute: About 1.5 mm thick for added rigidity
– F-flute: About 0.8-1 mm thick
How It Works
See how auto bottom boxes open and take shape.
- Flat Box
- Opening the Carton
- Bottom Assembly Complete
- Ready to Be Loaded
It will come flat with the bottom panels already glued.
Unfold the flat carton, and the glued bottom structure will pop up.
The bottom assembly locks into position through folding the bottom panels.
Now that the carton is upright, it’s now ready to be loaded.
Related Box Styles Compared
Tuck End BoxSide Seam is glued, and in this case, top and bottom have tuck flaps, which close the box. Bottom needs to be folded by hands as per the box design.
Snap Lock Bottom BoxSide Seam is glued, but bottom panels need to be folded and interlocked manually, resulting in forming the lock bottom without pre-gluing the bottom panels in the factory.
Seal End BoxSide Seam is glued, and end flaps will be sealed at the time of packing products. As per the design, one end flap is glued at the time of manufacturing and another is sealed at the time of packing.
What to Consider Before Ordering
Not all products need an auto bottom box. Light weight products may not require the cost involved and too thick a board is hard to fold.
Check the Bottom Design
The base should be able to hold your product based on its weight, size, and loading conditions.
Check your Artwork Layout
A portion of the base is folded into the bottom part of the box. The artwork on this part may be covered once the box is assembled. Send us your artwork for evaluation.
Total Packaging Cost Considerations
The pre-glued base involves an extra gluing operation. This may make it a bit expensive as compared to tuck style cartons. But compare it with the labor costs during packaging.
